The main purpose of creation was that God wanted to do good to all His handiwork, and to satisfy the desires of each and every person.
This was to take place in a specific manner. When the desire is “aroused from below,” and God’s people desire Him, then the Supernal Desire is also aroused to do good and gave to His people.
When something is not actually needed by the world, God’s sustenance is not given unless there is someone prepared to accept it. When there is preparation on the part of the recipient, the Beneficent Desire is aroused to do good.
The entire purpose of creation was for the sake of the Torah. Our sages therefore say, “In the beginning, for the sake of the Torah, which is called a beginning (Bereishit Rabbah 1:4).”
The Torah was not given to a earlier generations, however, since there was no generation that had both the preparation and the desire to accept the Torah as did the Generation of the Exodus. This generation declared, “All that God says, we will do and we will listen (Exodus 24:7),” indicating that they had both the proper preparation and the complete desire to accept the Torah. The Generation of the Exodus was the first one that had these qualities.
As a result of their “motivation from below,” there was also a “motivation from on high.” That God gave them the Torah. It was as a result of this motivation that God gave them the Torah. (Ohev Yisrael, Yitro)
“Blessed is He, our Lord, Who created us for His glory, separated us from those who stray, gave us the Torah of truth and implanted eternal life within us.
Make He open our heart through His Torah and imbue our heart with love and awe of Him and that we may do His will and serve Him wholeheartedly, so that we do not struggle in vain nor produce for futility.
Make it be Your will, God, our Lord and the Lord of our forefathers, that we observe Your decrees in This World, and merit that we live and see and inherit goodness and blessing in the years of Messianic times and for the life of the World to Come.”
These words address both “Motivation From Below,” and, “Motivation From On High.” We can read it as follows:
“Blessed is He, our Lord, Who created us for His glory, separated us from those who stray, gave us the Torah of truth and implanted eternal life within us.” God empowered us to arouse the through Heavens “Motivation From Below.”
“Make He open our heart through His Torah and imbue our heart with love and awe of Him and that we may do His will and serve Him wholeheartedly, so that we do not struggle in vain nor produce for futility.”
The only reason that we feel that all our efforts are not futile is because of the promise that “Motivation From Below” will create realities Above. In this phrase we are asking God for more than “Motivation From Below,” we are asking for the gift that we be able to sense and see that our Motivation creates realities Above.
“Make it be Your will, God, our Lord and the Lord of our forefathers, that we observe Your decrees in This World, and merit that we live and see and inherit goodness and blessing in the years of Messianic times and for the life of the World to Come.”
We are asking God that even when we are feeling to Motivate From Below, that He motivate us from Above according to Is original intention when creating the world.
