Asher Yatzar From The Perspective Of A Dentist Cohain

Blessed are You, Hashem, our God, King of the Universe, Who formed man you created us by gathering all of the elements of your creation together with wisdom (in a complex way) but also in a way that makes sense when studying it, such that we can understand to a certain extent the workings of the human body and You created many openings and cavities within him. It is revealed and known before Your throne every detail of my body is accounted for and taken care of on high and if any one of them were closed or if one of any one them were opened , it would be impossible to exist for even an hour I appreciate the fact that there are so many subtle operations going on inside of me for which I am unaware, but without which I cannot continue to exist [i.e., a short while]. Blessed are You, Hashem, Who heals all flesh you have given my body the capacity to separate that which is not necessary and maintain that which is in order for it to continuously build and rebuild what it needs to continu...

Asher Yatzar

The next blessing is the one we recite after going to the bathroom, known as Asher Yatzar. The basic kavanah is, “I honor the body that was designed to protect itself.” This is based on a halacha quoted in the Tur Shulchan Aruch, the son of Rabbeinu Asher, the Rosh. The Tur wonders that if we go to the bathroom and we have a bowel movement, then perhaps  it's not sufficient to just say the blessing of Asher Yatzar because if I had to clean myself, I also have to wash my hands, so perhaps I should also recite a blessing al netilat yadaim . The act itself is a way of honoring our Creator, and this we could do with enhanced awareness. Once we started learning about the COVID virus...

Healing

אֲשֶׁר יָצַר אֶת הָאָדָם בְּחָכְמָה  (Who formed man in Wisdom) During the COVID pandemic, I recognized more than ever how grateful I am for my health. Recognizing the value of my Health took on a whole new level for me.  Yet, at the same time, I observed so many people suffer panic, anxiety, and worry. I then experienced not only a renewed appreciation for my physical health, I also felt grateful for my mental and emotional health. As I heard more and more about the people suffering from the effects of the Corona virus, I understood that a full refuah means a FULL refuah – to not only have a physical healing, but to also be free of any emotional side effects, as well. Upon contemplating both physical and emotional health, I then realized that I can use the bruchah   בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה' רופֵא כָל בָּשר (Blessed are You, God, Healer of all flesh) to daven for my spiritual health as well! Thoughts and davening about health during these times can be used to grow in...
