The Story of the Jewish People

 

Ours, is a story that already resonates throughout the world. Less than three years after the Holocaust, we were a nation reborn, fighting for our survival, winning, and building a dynamic country against all odds.

We sing this paragraph of the Rosh Chodesh Av Hallel as a song of our story, to give us strength from our past to look forward to an ever greater future:

"Give thanks to God Who is good, for His kindness is forever! Let Israel declare that His Kindness is forever! Let the House of Aaron declare that His kindness is forever!

Let those who are in awe of God declare that His kindness if forever!" "I called to the Creator of Heaven and Earth from a tight spot, and He answered me broadly. God is with me, I have no fear; what can people do to me?

God is with me to help me, so I can confront my enemies.

It is better to depend in God than to trust people.

It is better to depend on God than to trust people in power.

All the nations surrounded me but I survived them in God's Name. They surrounded and encircled me but I survived them in God's Name. Though they surrounded me like a swarm of bees, they were snuffed out like burnt thorns. I survived them in God's Name. I was pushed to fall but God helped me.

The Creator of Heaven and Earth is my Help and my Hammer, and became my Savior. Song and victory sound in the tents of the just. God's Hand makes victory.

God's Hand is supreme. God's Hand makes victory!

I will not die but live, and tell of the doings of the Creator of Heaven and Earth. The Creator afflicted me to direct me but did not destroy me.

 

Open the gates of justice for me, I will enter and thank the Creator. This is the gate to God, the just may enter here.

I thank You for answering me, You became my salvation. The stone rejected by the builders became the cornerstone. This happened because of God; it is wondrous in our eyes. This is the day God made; let us sing and be happy with it. Please God; Save us! Please God; Make us successful!

Bless those who come in God's Name; we bless you from God's House. God is The Power and gave us Light.

Wave your holiday branches up to the comers of the altar.

You are my Power and I thank You, My Lord and I will exalt You. Give thanks to God Who is good, for His kindness is forever!"

Creation

 All was destroyed during the month of Av. Creation began on Elul, and, so it will again. We recite this prayer for the New Month focusing on Creation. “God created the world in order to do good to an other (Derech Hashem 1:2:1).” Creation was an expression of absolute love, the “other” had done nothing to earn it. This is why Elul, the month of Creation is also the month of intense love between God and Israel. I recite this prayer imaging myself participating in the final Heavenly planning meetings before Creation. I am not praying as one who has already existed and experienced success and failure, but as one who has the opportunity to see the world before Creation, and request in this moment of intense love all that I could possibly need and want. I use this prayer to prepare for all my Elul prayers until the 25th of the month when Creation began. For what shall I ask? What will I need to succeed? How will I define success? Koneh Hakol

 In the first Blessing of the Amidah when it says Hashem is " Koneh Hakol " it does not mean Hashem bought it all, or He acquired it since He made it! The son of the Vilna Gaon quotes his father, as explaining  Koneh Hakol to mean He's Mitaken (fixing)  everything.  Therefore Hashem inserted in the creation the ability to fix everything! Which is what the Torah  refers to in the Parshas Lech Licha, in the verse about Avram Avinu being one that was a Mitaken , one who made things right, improved  ie. the of Heaven and Earth, וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר בָּר֤וּךְ אַבְרָם֙ לְאֵ֣ל עֶלְי֔וֹן קֹנֵ֖ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ  (Genesis, 14:19) He blessed him, saying, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
